Hazards
- Not app. (not applicable): The property is one of the 2,309 properties that are ineligible.
- No: The property is one of the 4,070 properties for which the Corps has determined
that "no further action"—that is, no cleanup—is needed under the FUDS cleanup
program because the Corps has determined that there are no DOD-related
hazards present. Such determinations are made without input from state
or federal regulatory agencies, which may not agree. According to Corps
officials, these determinations do not mean that action may not be required
by other, subsequent users or owners of the properties to clean up contamination
they caused. Corps officials emphasize that they are willing to reconsider
"no further action" determinations if evidence of contamination caused
by DOD is found.
- Yes--Not DOD: The property is one of the 405 FUDS properties with hazards that are not
DOD’s responsibility to clean up because the hazards occurred only after
DOD relinquished control of the property.
- Yes--No project: The property is one of the 25 eligible properties with hazards for which
no projects have been identified.
- Yes--Not recommended or approved: The property is one of the 33 eligible properties for which projects were identified but were not recommended or approved to go forward. This situation
can occur because, for example, a landowner has refused DOD entry onto
the property to undertake cleanup actions or because the landowner has
addressed the problem.
- Yes--NPL: The property is one of the 21 FUDS properties categorized as National Priority
List (Superfund) sites under the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization
Act of 1986 (SARA).
