Status

For the 1,844 projects that are unscheduled or under way, the current phase is listed, if applicable. For the 1,608 completed projects, the last phase completed is listed, if available.

EE/CA: engineering evaluation/cost analysis
IRA: interim removal action
LTM: long-term monitoring
PN: potentially responsible party negotiations
RA-C: remedial action--construction
RA-O: remedial action--operation
RD: remedial design
RI/FS: remedial investigation/feasibility study
SI: site inspection

Not all projects progress through all phases. For example, when an unsafe building is the hazard involved, the project moves directly to the design phase so that the demolition project can be designed. The remedial action is normally complete at the "construction" phase, which in this case actually involves a demolition project, but the construction terminology is used to keep the reporting process consistent.

Projects can be completed at different phases, depending on the type of hazard or the remedy selected. The applicable phases by project type are shown below.

aA preliminary assessment of availability (PAE) is conducted for all properties.
bPotentially responsible party negotiations (PN) are conducted if other parties outside DOD have contributed to the hazard. The Department of Justice oversees these negotiations, which determine which of the parties are responsible for the cleanup and to what extent.
cProject closeout.
dSI for CON/HTRW is not the norm but may be authorized by Corps headquarters as an exception.
eNormally not required, unless the Corps conducts the cleanup subject to settlement agreements with all other potentially responsible parties.
