Lead Paint Hazard Risk and Locations of HUD's Lead Grant Awards, 2013-2017

Lead paint is highly toxic and can cause a variety of serious health problems, especially in young children. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awards grants to state and local jurisdictions to help address lead paint hazards in low-income housing where young children are likely to live. Areas with the greatest lead paint hazard risk are often those with homes built before 1978–the year the U.S. banned lead-containing paint used in housing–and high poverty.

This interactive map displays state and local jurisdictions that received one or more lead grant awards from HUD. Click on the blue markers for more information about the grants. You can also hover over each county for information on its poverty rate and the age of its housing.
