Tracking the Funds: Update on Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending

GAO-26-107944

Members of Congress can designate funds to a particular recipient—such as a local government or nonprofit organization—for a specific project. This is called "Community Project Funding" in the House of Representatives and "Congressionally Directed Spending" in the U.S. Senate.

We monitor these funds in our Tracking the Funds series. The interactive map below shows the funds from FYs 2022-2024. (Congress did not designate any funds in FY 2025.)

For more information on the use of these funds, see GAO-26-107944.

There were no projects for American Samoa in FYs 2022-2024, so it is not shown. Areas outside the continental 48 states are graphed to different scales for readability.

We ensured that the smallest scales were readable by using a nonlinear function to choose the length of the color bars in the legend.

The downloadable data file lists all the CPF/CDS projects and allows analysis by requesting member, location, and agency.
