Effects of Federal Activities on State Water Availability, Management, and Use

U.S. General Accounting Office

The U.S. General Accounting Office (GAO), an agency of the U.S. Congress, is studying the availability and management of water in the United States. While state laws govern the development, management, and use of water, the federal government influences states' decisions through the implementation or enforcement of federal laws, treaties, and policies.

As part of this study, we are surveying states to gather information on how federal activities affect the ability of the states to develop, manage, and use water.
