Grace shipping invoices, 103.4 tons of vermiculite ore from the Libby mine were shipped to this company on February 10, 1970. According to information EPA collected during its investigation of this site, Inland Steel had been a steel manufacturing company from the 1930s to 1998. According to an Inland representative, Inland Steel did not have a steel manufacturing facility in Chicago, Illinois, but Ryerson Steel, which had been a part of Inland, did have a warehouse located at this site. A representative of Ryerson said that, to his knowledge, Ryerson had never used vermiculite or vermiculite ore at the site location. According to EPA, there were no vermiculite products present at the site. EPA determined no further action was needed. |
