Grace shipping invoices, 140 tons of vermiculite ore from the Libby mine were shipped to this site between May 1968 and June 1969. According to information EPA collected, before 1968, the facility was owned by a cereal food company that used the site for food canning operations. Paxam Corporation, a manufacturer of hygiene products, occupied the site from 1968 through 1974. Peoria Grain Elevator operated at the site from 1982 to 1997. At the time of EPA's site visit, the Illinois Water Survey Office occupied the site and had been operating at the site since 1997. EPA did not find any evidence of vermiculite on the property. The land surrounding the site was being used for industrial purposes. On the basis of this information, EPA determined no further action was needed. |
