5 | 5824 Archer Road, Summit, Illinois | Roofing and asphalt products manufacturer | 440 | Yes-March 20, 2000 | No | According to an EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices, 440 tons of vermiculite ore from the Libby mine were shipped to this site between May 1967 and August 1969. According to information EPA gathered during its investigation, Owens Corning purchased this site from Lloyd A. Fry Roofing in 1977. Fry Roofing had manufactured roofing and asphalt products. When Owens Corning purchased the site, it continued the same operations. According to an Owens Corning representative, neither Owens Corning nor Fry had ever received vermiculite at this site. However, the company representative said W.R. Grace had supplied limestone to an Owens Corning facility in Chicago, where the limestone was ground up and used to produce shingles. During EPA's site visit, there was no evidence of vermiculite ore at the site. There was a residential area located near this site. On the basis of this information, EPA determined that no further action was necessary. |
