5 | 301 Riley Road, East Chicago, Indiana | Gypsum board manufacturer | 612 | Yes-May 3, 2000 | No | According to an EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices, 612 tons of vermiculite ore from the Libby mine were shipped to this site between December 1970 and July 1976. At the time of EPA's visit, the company was storing vermiculite ore in an indoor silo on the site. According to the plant manager, the company obtained the ore from a W.R. Grace facility in South Carolina, and the ore was not being exfoliated at this facility. Vermiculite was added to wallboard mixture to make the wallboard fireproof. EPA did not observe any stock piles of vermiculite on the site. On the basis of this information, EPA determined that no further action was needed. |
