5 | Building 17P, County Road 19, Cottage Grove, Minnesota | Catalytic converter manufacturer | 9,160 | Yes-April 12, 2000 | No | According to an EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices, 9,160 tons of vermiculite ore from the Libby mine were shipped to this site between January 1978 and November 1988. At the time of EPA's visit, limited quantities of vermiculite ore were present at the site. According to company officials, the ore was obtained from Libby, Montana. The vermiculite ore was stored in bags at a warehouse located on Hazel Street in St. Paul, Minnesota (listed separately in this database) and transported to the 3-M Chemolite site where it was used to manufacture catalytic converters. The company provided documents indicating that the vermiculite being used at the site contained less than 1-percent asbestos. Based on this information, EPA determined no further action was necessary. |
