5 | 367 Grove Street, Building 53-3, St. Paul, Minnesota | Product research laboratory | Unknown | Yes-April 12, 2000 | No | Although this site was listed in the W.R. Grace shipping invoice database, it was unclear how much ore from the Libby mine was shipped to this specific site. At the time of EPA's site visit in April 2000, this facility was an office and research laboratory that had been recently sold to a local government. According to 3-M representatives, a Phase I environmental assessment was performed at the site by a contractor before it was sold. EPA did not have a copy of the report containing the findings of this assessment. The 3-M officials said the facility had operated as a product research laboratory for over 40 years. They told EPA that the facility may have received small quantities of Libby vermiculite ore in the past to be used in research projects. EPA’s assessment of the site found no vermiculite materials on the property. On the basis of its investigation, EPA determined no further action was needed. |
