5 4600 E. 71st Street, Cleveland, Ohio Former exfoliation facility Unknown Yes-March 6, 2000 No An EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices did not contain any records indicating Libby ore was shipped to this site. However, a 1953 report issued by the Bureau of Mines (at that time located in the U.S. Department of the Interior) indicated this facility had been a vermiculite exfoliation plant. At the time of EPA's visit, Ashland Specialty Chemical Company operated at this site and produced coatings for use in material casting processes and the manufacture of refractory products. According to company officials, Ashland had purchased this property from Federal Foundry Supply Company in 1968. Company officials said Ashland did not process vermiculite ore, did not use it in any of their manufacturing processes, and did not have the capability to exfoliate it. Ashland officials had no knowledge of Wyodak Chemical Company ever operating at the site. EPA did not observe any furnaces or vermiculite ore during the site visit. On the basis of this information, EPA determined no further action was needed.
