6 1000 N. Hill Road, Albuquerque, New Mexico Gypsum board manufacturer 231 Yes-July 10, 2000 No According to an EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices, 231 tons of vermiculite ore from the Libby mine were shipped to this site between September 1983 and May 1988. At the time of EPA's visit, American Gypsum had been manufacturing gypsum board at this site for about 10 years. Previously, Centex American Gypsum had operated at the site, and before that, Allied American Gypsum Company. At the time of EPA's visit, the American Gypsum plant manager said the company was not using vermiculite in its sheet rock product; however, vermiculite had been used in the past as an additive to the gypsum board. The plant manager was not sure if the ore came from the Libby mine. The vermiculite was stored in bags before it was mixed into the wallboard slurry. The plant manager said any vermiculite ore in the future would be obtained from the W.R. Grace facility in Enoree, South Carolina (the Enoree facility is listed separately in this database). EPA observed that the facility was very clean. On the basis of this information, EPA determined no further action was needed.
