6 | 7715 Tiburon Street, Albuquerque, New Mexico | Gypsum board manufacturer | 2,350 | Yes-July 10, 2000 | No | According to an EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices, 2,350 tons of vermiculite ore from the Libby mine were shipped to this facility between January 1967 and September 1982. On the basis of its review of records and interviews with a company official, EPA determined that this facility began operations in 1960, closed in the 1980s, and reopened in 1993. At the time of EPA's visit, American Gypsum (formerly Centex American Gypsum Company) was manufacturing gypsum board at the facility. The company officials said, to their knowledge, Libby ore had never been used at the site. The officials said they had no records indicating that Libby ore was used but explained that they only had records on company operations since 1993. At the time of EPA's visit, the company obtained ore from a W.R. Grace facility in Enoree, South Carolina. (This site is listed separately in this database.) The facility received the vermiculite in 3,000 pound sacks and added it to the wallboard mixture through a feeder bin. The vermiculite was stored in bags until needed. EPA observed that operations at the plant were somewhat dusty. On the basis of its investigation, EPA decided no further action was needed. |
