6 2933 Dauphine Street, New Orleans, Louisiana Former exfoliation facility Unknown Yes-February 22, 2000 No An EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices did not contain any records indicating Libby ore was shipped to this site. However, reports issued in 1953 and 1964 by the Bureau of Mines (at that time in the U.S. Department of the Interior) indicated Southern Mineralite Company had been a vermiculite exfoliation plant. When EPA visited, this site was owned and operated by a window cleaning company. EPA determined that a vermiculite exfoliation plant had operated on the site from approximately the 1930s until 1964. At the time of EPA's visit, representatives of the window cleaning company said the existing facility was new and the buildings on the site had been constructed within the 3 previous years. A foundation slab from a former structure remained on the site. The site was near a railroad, which could have been used to transport vermiculite, and was in a residential area of urban New Orleans. EPA reported no visible accumulations of vermiculite waste material at the site. EPA determined no further action was needed.
