6 | W. 10th Street, Reserve, Louisiana | Former exfoliation facility | Unknown | Yes-February 22, 2000 | No | An EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices did not contain any records indicating Libby ore was shipped to this site. However, a 1970 report by the U.S. Geological Survey indicated that this facility was a vermiculite exfoliation plant. At the time of EPA's visit, this site was operated by a company that distributed and manufactured activated carbon. The site, located in an industrial area, was the previous location of a minerals expansion and manufacturing facility that operated from approximately 1969 until 1991. A trailer park was located approximately 200 feet to the south of the site. There was railroad access to the site, which could have been used to transport vermiculite. EPA found that the facility appeared "clean" and did not observe any vermiculite waste. The company that owned the site at the time of EPA's investigation reported that the site was "clean" when they took possession of it. No hoppers or silos from the previous business were located on the site. EPA did notice several small patches of white powder-like material on the ground at the site. Combined, the powder patches accounted for less than 10 percent of the total surface area of the site. EPA did not determine what this material was. EPA decided no further action was needed. |
