6 | N. Highway 16, Llano, Texas | Former exfoliation facility | Unknown | No | No | An EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices did not contain any records indicating Libby ore was shipped to this site. However, EPA obtained the name of this site through a review of other documents, such as local government records or EPA enforcement information. On March 15, 2000, EPA attempted to visit this former vermiculite mine and exfoliation facility, but was unable to locate it. The suspected location was north of the city of Llano, off Highway 16, just north of County Road 215. According to city and county officials, no known exfoliation facilities had been located inside the city of Llano. Some people interviewed recalled seeing silos and a warehouse near the suspected location. However, EPA was unable to find an access road to the potential site. According to the U.S. Geological Survey Minerals Yearbooks, the mine was closed in 1979. EPA determined no further action was needed. |
