6 | 1000 North 7th Street, West Memphis, Arkansas | Gypsum board manufacturer | Unknown | Yes-July 18, 2000 | No | An EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices did not contain any records indicating Libby ore was shipped to this site. However, this company did appear on a list of W.R. Grace licensees and industry partners. At the time of EPA's visit, Temple-Inland owned this facility, which had been manufacturing gypsum wallboard since 1972. The company had previously operated as the Temple Gypsum Company and then Temple-Eastex. According to the plant manager, vermiculite was used in the less than 1 percent of the company's product mix. Since only small quantities of fire-resistant wallboard were manufactured, the facility had not received a shipment of vermiculite ore in 3 years. The vermiculite ore was received in 50-pound sacks from Virginia Vermiculite in Woodruff, South Carolina. (This facility is listed separately in this database.) The plant manager said Libby ore had been used in the past, but none remained on the site. A file review indicated that the company had not received Libby ore since 1985. EPA did not see any vermiculite waste on the site and the site appeared to be clean. EPA determined no further action was needed. |
