2 | 654 Madison Avenue, New York, New York | Vermiculite exporter | Unknown | Yes-March 5, 2000 | No | Although there were no records that this site received shipments of Libby ore, this company was on a list of W.R. Grace licensees and industrial partners. After an Internet search, EPA found that a company identified as Paul Marsh, Inc. was located at 654 Madison Avenue in Manhattan. At the time of EPA’s visit, this site was occupied by a high-rise building that was owned by the Calvin Klein clothing company. According to information EPA collected during its investigation, which included interviews with representatives of Paul Marsh, Inc., the company did not use the building for manufacturing and never stored vermiculite at this location. In the 1960s and early 1970s, Paul Marsh, Inc. exported vermiculite to Venezuela. The staging areas for the vermiculite shipments were Red Hook Terminal in Brooklyn, New York, and Port Newark, New Jersey. At the time of EPA's investigation, company representatives said Paul Marsh, Inc. was importing/exporting materials such as chemicals, machinery, and computer hardware and software. On the basis of this information, EPA decided no further action was needed at this site. |
