7 | 2829 180th Street, Fort Dodge, Iowa | Gypsum board manufacturer | 2,010 | Yes-September 12, 2000 | No | According to an EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices, 2,010 tons of vermiculite ore from the Libby mine were shipped to this site between August 1968 and December 1975. At the time of EPA's visit, a representative of National Gypsum said the company produced a fire-rated drywall board that contained vermiculite. This product had been produced at this facility since 1958, when the company began operations. The company representative said, to the best of his knowledge, the company had never expanded (exfoliated) vermiculite ore and all the vermiculite used since he started working at the plant in 1980 was obtained from Carolina Vermiculite Company. (Carolina Vermiculite is listed separately in this database). The company had documentation indicating that the ore used at the time of EPA's visit was from Carolina Vermiculite. EPA determined no further action was needed. |
