7 | 13425 210th Street, Sperry, Iowa | Gypsum board manufacturer | 1,050 | Yes-September 12, 2000 | No | According to an EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices, 1,050 tons of vermiculite ore from the Libby mine were shipped to this site between July 1972 and November 1975. At the time of EPA's visit, a company representative said this facility produced a fire-rated drywall board that contained vermiculite. The company official said this product had been produced at the facility since it began operations in the 1960s. This official had no knowledge that the facility had ever expanded (exfoliated) vermiculite ore and said that all of the vermiculite used in the drywall was obtained from Carolina Vermiculite Company. (Carolina Vermiculite is listed separately in this database). The company had documentation indicating that the ore used at the time of EPA's visit was from Carolina Vermiculite. EPA determined no additional action was needed. |
