7 | 1220 NW Murphy Avenue, Joplin, Missouri | Former exfoliation facility | Unknown | Yes-April 10, 2000 | No | An EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices did not contain any records indicating Libby ore was shipped to this site. However, a 1953 report by the Bureau of Mines (at that time in the U.S. Department of the Interior) indicated this facility had been a vermiculite exfoliation plant. At the time of EPA's visit, a company that manufactured and distributed insulation products operated at the site. A representative of that company said he had no knowledge of vermiculite materials being purchased from W.R. Grace since the company began operating at the site in 1983. Another employee, who had been working for other companies at the site since 1957, said he had no knowledge of vermiculite being used at the site. There was no visible evidence of mica or vermiculite inside or outside of the building. EPA determined no further action was needed. |
