8 2401 East 40th Avenue, Denver, Colorado Unknown Unknown Yes-June 26, 2000 No An EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices did not contain any records indicating Libby ore was shipped to this site. However, this company did appear on a list of W.R. Grace licensees and industry partners. While EPA did not find any evidence that a company named International Vermiculite had been located at this address, it did find that Denver Fire Clay was listed as being at the site in the late 1960s and Thermal Ceramics Industries was listed in 1971. EPA found that the neighborhood surrounding the site was primarily commercial/industrial, with a few residences several blocks away. At the time of EPA's visit, a roofing company was operating at this location. Three warehouses and an office building were located on the site. A rail spur, which could have been used to transport vermiculite, and a loading dock was on the east side of the property and both were no longer in use. Most of the site was paved, with some exposed soils and grass around the perimeter. A representative of the roofing company was not aware of any furnaces or smokestacks in the buildings. EPA inspected the exposed soil/grassy areas on the site and did not see any vermiculite. Because EPA could not confirm that International Vermiculite had operated at this location and because vermiculite was not visible at the site, EPA determined no further action was needed.
