2 | 2255 Mt. Read Boulevard, Building 308, Rochester, New York | Unknown | 120 | Yes-May 24, 2006 | No | According to an EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices, 120 tons of Libby ore were shipped to this site between August 1967 and October 1969. This site was first identified by EPA as possibly receiving Libby ore in April 2006. At the time of EPA's visit in May 2006, this site was part of a heavily industrialized park. According to the information EPA collected from company representatives, Distillation Products, Inc. (DPI) was founded in 1920 as a division of the Eastman Kodak Company. The buildings that DPI had occupied were constructed in the late 1940s to mid-1950s. The company had primarily manufactured vitamins and food supplements at this site, and had also conducted some solvent distillation processes. DPI became a division of the Eastman Chemical Company in 1994 as part of a spin-off from Eastman Kodak. In early 1999, Eastman Chemical announced it was phasing out DPI operations in Rochester and the facility was closed. Kodak representatives said they had no prior knowledge that DPI had purchased or used vermiculite ore, and Kodak had no records that DPI had purchased vermiculite. On the basis of this information, EPA decided no further action was needed. |
