9 | 12393 Slavsen Avenue, Whittier, California | Unknown | 198 | Yes-May 10, 2000 | Yes | According to an EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices, 198 tons of vermiculite ore from the Libby mine was shipped to this site between November 1985 and September 1988. At the time of EPA's visit, Pryor Giggey was no longer operating at the site and another company occupied the site. EPA collected 5 air, 16 soil, and 5 dust samples. All of the air samples did not contain detectable levels of asbestos; the soil samples contained less than 1-percent asbestos; and the dust samples contained less than 10,000 asbestos structures per square centimeter of wiped surface (the level at which a cleanup action may be needed). The soil samples were analyzed using polarized light microscopy (PLM) and the air and dust samples were analyzed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Since the amounts of asbestos in all of the samples were less than the levels that trigger a cleanup action, EPA determined no further action was needed. |
