3 | 1911 Kenilworth Avenue, NE, Washington, District of Columbia | Former exfoliation facility | Unknown | Yes-March 31, 2000 | No | Although an EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices contained no records indicating Libby ore was shipped to this site, an October 1953 information circular published by the Bureau of Mines (in the U.S. Department of the Interior) indicated that this facility was a vermiculite exfoliation plant. At the time of EPA's visit, an automobile shredder, junk yard, and warehouse were located on the site. None of the buildings at the site resembled a vermiculite exfoliation facility, and EPA could not find any other evidence that vermiculite operations had been conducted at the site. On the basis of this information, EPA decided no further action was necessary. |
