3 | 4900 Ondura Road, Fredericksburg, Virginia | Rigid roofing and siding manufacturer | 66 | Yes-September 15, 2000 | Yes | According to an EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices, 66 tons of vermiculite ore from the Libby mine were shipped to this site between March and September of 1980. At the time of EPA's site visit, NuLine Industries was operating at this site. EPA did not confirm if Onduline and NuLine operated at separate times at the site or if NuLine assumed ownership of Onduline. EPA found that this site had been investigated by the state of Virginia in the early 1980s and the state had determined no further action was needed. EPA did not have any further details about the purpose or results of the state’s investigation. At time of EPA's investigation in 2000, the facility was no longer using vermiculite. Equipment from past operations was still on site. The location of the area where vermiculite had been stored in bulk was paved over. (When potentially impacted areas are covered with pavement, asphalt, or gravel, EPA generally considers that the soil is encapsulated and likely poses no environmental or health threat.) EPA collected two bulk/soil samples and one air sample and none of these contained detectable levels of asbestos. The bulk/soil samples were analyzed using polarized light microscopy (PLM) and the air sample was analyzed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). On the basis of this information, EPA decided no further action was necessary. |
