Reports issued in 1953 and 1964 by the Bureau of Mines (at that time in the U.S. Department of the Interior) indicated this facility was a vermiculite exfoliation plant. Furthermore, U.S. Geological Survey reports issued in 1970, 1975, 1980, 1985, and 1990 indicated that this facility was a vermiculite exfoliation plant. The site also appeared on a list of W.R. Grace licensees and industry partners. Available documentation indicated that EPA visited this site, completed its evaluation, and decided no further action was needed. EPA did not have documentation indicating whether sampling was conducted. No documentation was available regarding the basis for EPA's decision to take no further action. |
