4 | 6211 N. 56th Street, Tampa, Florida | Former exfoliation facility | Unknown | Yes—October 24, 2000 | Yes | An EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices did not contain any records indicating Libby ore was shipped to this site. However, a 1964 report by the Bureau of Mines (at the time located in the Department of the Interior) indicated this facility was a vermiculite exfoliation plant. Furthermore, U.S. Geological Survey reports issued in 1970, 1975, 1980, 1985, 1990 and 1999 indicated that this facility was a vermiculite exfoliation plant. On January 24, 2001, EPA collected one soil sample near a railroad track in an area where vermiculite ore was unloaded and one sample of raw vermiculite ore from a storage bin. None of the samples contained detectable levels of asbestos when analyzed using polarized light microscopy (PLM). Based on this information, EPA decided no further action was needed. |
