4 | 1167 Zonolite Place NE, Atlanta, Georgia | Former exfoliation facility | 480 | Yes-December 5, 2000 | Yes | According to an EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices, this site received 480 tons of Libby ore between January 1966 and October 1967. According to a 1964 report by the Bureau of Mines (at that time in the U.S. Department of the Interior), this facility was a vermiculite exfoliation plant. EPA collected two surface soil samples at this site on December 5, 2000—one from a storage hopper area and another from beside an old railroad bed. The samples did not contain detectable levels of asbestos as analyzed using polarized light microscopy (PLM). EPA decided no further action was needed. |
