5 | 433 N. Northwest Highway, Barrington, Illinois | Product Testing | 3 | Yes-March 21, 2000 | No | According to an EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices, 3 tons of Libby ore were shipped to this site in January 1970. Through its investigation of this site, EPA found that the American Can Company canned prepared foods at the site and then tested the cans for durability. This property was vacated in 1993, and a construction company demolished the building on the property in 1998. At the time of EPA's visit, residential homes were being constructed on the site. American Can had performed a Phase I environmental assessment of this property in 1993 and the construction company that had performed the demolition had removed materials that contained asbestos (such as vinyl tiles) from the site prior to demolition activities. According to a representative of the construction company, the Phase I environmental assessment did not identify any problems with asbestos-contaminated ore and there was no sign of ore-like material present during the demolition and subsequent construction activities. On the basis of this information, EPA determined no further action was necessary. |
