10 | 5931 East Margnaul Way S., Seattle, Washington | Gypsum board manufacturer | 12,770 | Yes-April 28, 2000 | Yes | According to an EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices, 12,770 tons of vermiculite ore from the Libby mine were shipped to this site between June 1967 and November 1992. At the time of EPA’s investigation, James Hardie Gypsum was operating at this site and used a closed system to add vermiculite to gypsum. EPA collected one sample from a bag of vermiculite that was labeled as originating from South Carolina. Sampling results indicated no detectable levels of asbestos. Polarized light microscopy (PLM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to analyze the sample. On the basis of observations made during the site visit and the sampling results, EPA decided no further action was necessary. |
