The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) is currently evaluating the U.S.
Department of Transportations (DOT) Small Community Air Service Development Grant Program.
GAO is the independent and nonpartisan investigative arm of the U.S. Congress. At the
request of the Congress, GAO evaluates federal programs, audits federal expenditures, and
issues legal opinions. It studies how the federal government spends taxpayer dollars and
advises the Congress and the heads of executive agencies about ways to make government more
effective and responsive.
For this study, GAO will focus on examining (1) how passenger traffic and air service have
changed at the nations small community airports, (2) how DOT has implemented the Small
Community Air Service Development Grant Program, and (3) what strategies have been used
and what results have been obtained by the grants provided under the Small Community Air
Service Development Grant Program. This survey will help us gather information about
aspects of each of these objectives.
