Short Description Responsible for the safety and soundness and housing mission oversight of the enterprises, and the other housing GSE, the FHL Bank System. The Federal Housing Finance Agency's (FHFA) regulatory responsibilities and supervisory powers include expanded authority to place Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in conservatorship or receivership, which it did in September 2008. FHFA’s role with respect to the FHL Bank System remains solely as an independent regulator.
