| Short Description |
Provides competitive grants to state agencies, local governments, Native American tribes, and nonprofit organizations for rehabilitating single-family housing in rural areas that is owned by low- and very low-income families, rehabilitating rural rental properties, and rehabilitating rural cooperative housing that is structured to enable the cooperatives to remain affordable to low- and very low-income occupants. The grantees assist homeowners in repairing or rehabilitating their homes by providing them with direct loans, grants, or interest rate reductions on loans from private lenders. A broad range of housing preservation activities are authorized under the program. |
