Background

This document presents the results of GAO's Survey of State Regulators on Regulation of Sales of Pre-Need Funeral Plans. In this e-supplement, we show the individual responses provided by state officials that replied to the questions on this survey. Although respondents were asked to provide written comments to open-ended questions, these responses are not provided here.

We administered this survey from April 2011 through June 2011 in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards. A more detailed discussion of our scope and methodology is contained in our report "DEATH SERVICES: State Regulation of the Death Care Industry Varies and Officials Have Mixed Views on Need for Further Federal Involvement," GAO-12-65 (Washington, D.C.: December, 2011).
